The Plastic Waste Makers index shows counties per capita single use plasic generation which produces the polymers that become throwaway plastic items, from face masks to plastic bags and bottles, which at the end of their short life pollute the oceans or are burned or thrown into landfill.

The freedom of press index is an annual ranking of countries compiled and published by Reporters Without Borders and shows the degree of freedom available to journalists in 180 countries and regions around the world. Countries with a high value has less freedom of press.

The Climate Change issue category measures progress to combat global climate change, which exacerbates all other environmental threats and imperils human health and safety. It is composed of eight indicators: adjusted emission growth rates for four greenhouse gases (CO2, CH4, F-gases, and N2O) and one climate pollutant (black carbon); growth rate in CO2 emissions from land cover; greenhouse gas intensity growth rate; and greenhouse gas emissions per capita. The index ranges from 0 – 100 with 100 being the highest score.

The Biodiversity & Habitat Index shows the overall score (out of 100) of each country. The scores take into account several key data points, such as the ‘Terrestrial Biome Protection’, ‘ Marine Protected Areas’, ‘Protected Area Representativeness’, ‘Species Habitat & Protection’ and ‘ Biodiversity’.

The Gender Gap Index measures gender equality based on the relative gaps between women and men across 4 key areas: health, education, economy and politics. The value ranges between 0 (complete inequality) and 1 (complete equality).

Healthcare Index is an estimation of the overall quality of the health care system, health care professionals, equipment, staff, doctors, cost, etc. The index ranges from 0 – 100 with 100 representing the best quality healthcare possible.

The inclusive internet index gives a based on the scores of the Availability, Affordability, Relevance and Readiness categories. The scores ranges from 0 – 100, with 100 being the most inclusive internet environment.

The Safety Index estimates the overall safety in a given country. The index ranges from 0 – 100 with 0 (very low level of safety) and 100 (very high level of safety).

The Sanitation & Drinking Water Index measures how well countries protect human health from environmental risks on two indicators: unsafe drinking water and unsafe sanitation. The index goes from 0 – 100 with a 100 EPI score meaning maximum protection against unsafe drinking water and sanitation.

The rainfall index is an index developed by FAO which reflects how much precipitation (measured in mm) is received relative to the long-term average for a specified area and timeframe.

The 2020 EPI provides a quantitative basis for comparing, analyzing, and understanding environmental performance for 180 countries. Countries are  scored and ranked  on their environmental performance using the most recent year of data available. Along with  calculating how these scores have changed over the previous decade.

The Ocean Health Index (‘OHI’) is a scientific framework used to measure how healthy oceans are. The score range from 0 – 100, with 100 meaning that the ocean is completely healthy.

The Quality of Life Index (the higher the better) is an estimation of overall quality of life by using an empirical formula which takes into account various variables such as the purchasing power and pollution index, house price to income ratio, cost of living index and more.
