Culture & Local Life

Pentingsari is well known for a cultural, wisdom destination. World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) has named Pentingsari village as one of the pilot projects for Community-based Tourism and Sustainable Tourism Development program. The village has also won the Indonesian Sustainable Tourism Award. The village is limited to 1,000 visitors per day with different activities to make them as comfortable as possible. Putting nature and culture as their main potential, Pentingsari does not need to sell luxury; everything you see in the village is as traditional and authentic as they are.

Sustainability

As the village was not known to the outside world, in 2008 a grass-root movement was created with the dream to open up the village by adding value to the social, economic and cultural life, while still maintaining the traditions, wisdom and culture of the community.
Through partner development programs improving camp facilities, infrastructure and assistance to facilitate HR training, the number of visitors was increasing. The community has gained additional income and improved the economy without having to damage the environment. Pentingsari village also put effort in empowering women’s groups and various productive economic activities.
