The historic railway station from 1853, welcomes you to an area dotted with ancient churches, mills, and castles and surrounded by stunning natural beauty. Famous Meerssen artist Charles Eyck left artistic marks throughout the city, as well as a must-see architectural showstopper: the Basilica.

Getting there
Meerssen is easily accessible via the A2 and A79 motorways. It is also accessible by train via Bunde and Meerssen railway stations. Tourists also can use the OV-ToerPas that is developed to create a comprehensive offer tailored specifically to tourists in South-Limburg.

Wine route
Meerssen is currently developing a wine route along the three vineyards of Meerssen in order to tell the story of viniculture in Meerssen and showcase the dedication of its local winemakers.

The Bunderbos
The Bunderbos, with its exceptionally rich and rare flora, is the steepest hillside forest in the Netherlands – so be sure to wear sturdy shoes! It is home to several water sources and bubbling brooks. The forest is a riot of colour in the spring, when primula, thimbleweed, pilewort, wild garlic, and many other flowering plants burst into bloom.

Proosdij park
The historic Proosdij park is a stunning park with a pond, ancient trees, and numerous works of art. In the park you can find a former tea house called the Gloriette.

The Church of St Martin
The Church of St Martin in Geulle aan de Maas, is believed to have been built in 1250. As is often the case, the history of this church has its own unique history. In 1298, the abbot of Kornelimünster in Geul (the old name for Geulle) appointed a pastor. In 1307, Geul was an ecclesia integra (a mature and self-sustaining church community) in the Suestra (Susteren) deanery.

RiverPark Maasvallei
Over the centuries, the Meuse river transformed Limburg into a unique and fascinating landscape with a tangle of old river channels, meanders, dikes, forelands, and flora and fauna. Historic cities and prominent villages testify to a past interwoven with the Meuse. Grab your bicycle, slip on your walking shoes, and discover the new cross-border (tourist-recreational) nature area of RiverPark Maasvallei.

When in Ulestraten, you shouldn’t pass up the opportunity to walk or cycle through the hamlet of Waterval. Explore De Dellen nature reserve in Rothem and end up in the neighbouring municipality of Valkenburg aan de Geul.
