Sustainability

Pallars Jussà Region was selected in the
2020 Sustainable Destinations Top 100
Pallars Jussà Region has been committed for years to a strategy to boost tourism in which sustainability is its transversal value. Its fundamental pillars are public-private collaboration, the valorization of natural and cultural resources and local gastronomy. Among the tools, the creation of a tourist product or participation in cooperation projects is a commitment to sustainable tourism. Sustainability, and specifically eco-mobility, is one of the lines of action of the Pallars Jussà Economic and Social Development Plan (2017) and has been the basis of the Green Pyrenees Slow Tourism cross-border project, with the Tren dels Llacs as one of the most notorious elements. This sustainable tourism strategy has facilitated the positioning at national and international level and the recognition of some of its icons. For example, the Fallas del Pirineu, declared Intangible Heritage by UNESCO; the GEOPARC and Starlight certifications for astronomical tourism; the consolidation of unique tourist products such as the Cinquè Llac; or the initiative "I came to Pallars Viu el Jussà". Some of these initiatives have been awarded for the Environment and Sustainable Tourism.
