Sustainability
İzmir’s four key tourism districts Selçuk, Urla, Menderes, and Çeşme have implemented structured sustainability practices through their participation in the Green Destinations Awards Program, coordinated by the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Tourism Directorate. Completed in less than two years, the process enabled audit feedback to be quickly translated into concrete destination-level improvements, strengthening sustainable tourism management, governance, and community engagement. Additionally, four good practice stories from these destinations were selected among the Top 100 Destination Stories. In 2024, Urla’s Vineyard Route, titled “Unveiling Urla’s Wine Heritage: The Birth of the Urla Vineyard Route,” received the People’s Choice Award.
